How does Rolfing work?
Before the first treatment, I will hear about your wishes for the treatment, a little about your history and discuss with you how the process is expected to proceed.
I will then do a body reading where I look for tension patterns, imbalances and imbalances in the body in order to make a plan for the current session and point out the overall goals I have for your body’s development during the program.
ROLLING IS DONE LYING DOWN
The treatment takes place lying on a couch where I use my hands, knuckles and forearms to work the connective tissue, while your awareness, breathing and small movements help release tension in the tissue.
An important part of the treatment is respecting the client’s boundaries. I work in a listening, respectful and precise manner and during the session I am in dialog with you so that the pace and pressure are also within your tolerance. The treatments are not intended to cause pain. A body in pain contracts, and since the purpose is to get the tissue to open up and let go, there is no logic in crossing the client’s pain threshold.
AFTER THE TREATMENT
After treatments, you may feel light and refreshed, but at other times you may feel more exhausted and tired. It’s a good idea to take time to relax in the hours immediately after treatment, limit strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours and drink extra water that day. You may also experience muscle soreness and a brief flare-up of old tension in the first 2-3 days after the session.
